Tourists have too often the exaggerated image of a country where insecurity reigns. Rest assured, Mexico is no more dangerous than any other country, and since you are not involved in drug trafficking and come instead to spend and enjoy restaurants, visits, natural sites, no one will want to harm you… On the contrary, Mexicans are very welcoming to tourists.
1. A favorable climate all year round
Mexico, and especially the Yucatan region has sunshine all year round. Whatever the season, you can travel to Mexico without worries. If there is a rainy season from July to October, it is not binding to visit Yucatan.
The rains are often in the evening and never last very long (about 30min).
The days remain warm and sunny, which explains why many families leaved to Mexico during the big school holidays.
2. Mexico, a trip for small budgets!
If the airline ticket is the most important expense item on the trip, the rest is quite accessible. Outside the Riviera Maya, you can find hotels at a lower price: around 25€ per night.
On the Riviera Maya, a very touristic region, the average is higher, but it’s still on all budgets. In some parts of Mexico, it’s almost as expensive to cook for yourself as it is to go to a local taqueria (a taco restaurant), imagine!
3- Archaeological sites, including one of the 7 wonders of the world
Mexico is a country with a thousand facets capable of responding to all the profiles of travelers, lovers of natural landscapes as well as history lovers!
One of the main attractions of Mexico is the culture, if you are looking to visit a pyramid in Mexico, that’s not what is missing! This country is full of archaeological sites all more beautiful than each other. The Yucatan allows you to visit several without travelling long distances. It is also in the Yucatan Peninsula, in the vicinity of Valladolid that you can visit one of the 7 wonders of the World: Chichen Itza, which should not be missed during your trip to Mexico.
4- Cenotes
Cenotes are geological formations unique in the world and present only in the peninsula of Yucatan, there are more than 10,000, but not all are accessible. The most beautiful cenotes are located on the Riviera Maya, in the region of Valladolid and around the city of Mérida. These natural wells, whose water is fresh and sweet, are a must-see stop on a trip to Mexico to enjoy a refreshing swim.
It is often said that the Mayans made human sacrifices there, but this is only a legend because at the time water was a commodity that had to be taken care of in order to be able to drink and irrigate crops. Human sacrifices, if they had really taken place, would have soiled the water and rendered it unfit for consumption. On the other hand, what is probable and what explains that bones are found at the bottom of some cenotes, is that the Mayans threw the bones of dead there after total decomposition of the bodies. According to our team, the Cenote Oxman is the most beautiful in the region!
5- Natural landscapes
All over Mexico, you will have the opportunity to see beautiful landscapes, in the north with large expanses of desert and canyons, in the center with volcanoes, and in the south with nature reserves, lagoons, Cenotes or waterfalls in which you can bathe.
The diversity of landscapes in Mexico is absolutely impressive… Tell me, in what other country can you find so many natural resources? Very few….
6- Colonial Cities
In its colonial past and the Spanish conquest, Mexico can sometimes be reminiscent of Spanish alleys or monuments. The most famous colonial cities are in the north of the capital Mexico City with San Miguel de Allende and Guanajuato where the festivities of the festival of the dead are authentic and colorful! In Yucatan, the main colonial cities are Valladolid, Merida, Campeche and of course Izamal one of the 100 «pueblos magicos» (magical villages) of Mexico.
7- Heavenly beaches
This is often one of the first things you think about when you think about Mexico: the heavenly beaches of the Caribbean! To the north, in the Baja California region, Playa Balandra is one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. A little further south still on the Pacific coast, it is the surfers’ landmark between Puerto Escondido and Zicatela where impressive waves make it one of the privileged spots of the surf World Cup, but often not suitable for swimming. Finally, the beautiful beaches of Yucatan, which are mainly on the Mayan Riviera between Tulum and Cancun, not to mention the beautiful beaches of Isla Hoblox.
8- A Family-Friendly Region
As you will have understood, Mexico is a destination where you can combine both the cultural side by visiting archaeological sites and colonial cities, but also the lazy side with natural landscapes, cenotes and dream beaches, all this without having to swallow miles every day. Children and their parents will all benefit from a family trip to Mexico.
9- Extraordinary activities
Families will appreciate the variety of activities to do in the Yucatan Peninsula. The opportunity to go swimming with the turtles that are found all year round in a beautiful bay, go for jungle walks in search of howler monkeys and spider monkeys, swim with the Whale Sharks, visit nature reserves, relax on heavenly islands like Holbox or Isla Mujeres, visit the Mayan ruins…
10- Gastronomy
Like any good Frenchman, you surely like to eat well and Mexico will not leave you without a rest about it, since Mexican gastronomy is known to be one of the best in the world and has even entered the UNESCO World Heritage as well as French gastronomy. From the famous tacos to the beautiful lobsters accompanied by a good guacamole to enjoy on a small beach, including burritos and fajitas, Mexico will satisfy the palate of any lover of good food.
